A very reliable wood stud finder. It picks up the timber frames behind my plasterboard without issue. You do have to remember to calibrate it every time you place it on a new wall, which takes a second, but once you get the hang of it, it works flawlessly.
I was looking at the expensive Bosch and Zircon models, but took a chance on this. I'm so glad I did. It does exactly the same job, feels robust, and the centre-marking hole is actually a better design than the pricier ones.
Used this for a full weekend of putting up shelves and mirrors in our new build. The metal detector mode is great for finding the metal studwork modern houses use. The beep is quite loud, which is good for safety but can get a bit annoying if you're scanning for a long time.
How to Scan Safely
- Power On & Select Mode: Press the power button and select your desired scanning mode (Wood, Metal, or AC Wire).
- Calibrate: Place the scanner flat against the wall where you intend to drill. Press and hold the scan button until the calibration beep sounds (usually 2-3 seconds).
- Scan Slowly: Slide the device slowly and horizontally across the wall. Do not lift or tilt the scanner.
- Locate & Mark: When the LCD screen indicates the centre of the object and the audio alert sounds, use a pencil to mark the spot through the central positioning hole.
- Verify: For maximum safety, always do a secondary pass in AC Wire mode to ensure no live cables are crossing your intended drill site.
